Aims and Scope

The BSPI welcomes original articles dealing with all fields of paleontology, with special reference to systematics, paleoecology, biostratigraphy and paleoichnology. All taxonomic groups are treated. Review articles are welcome, and may be solicited occasionally. Special issues devoted to a single topic may be considered.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by anonymous expert referees. Manuscripts bearing only a local interest will not be accepted.

Authors are encouraged to add supplemental material in form of colour figures, original datasets and/or computer program source code. Supplemental material and colour figures will appear only on the electronic edition. Publishing on BSPI is completely free.

The BSPI offers:

  • Online-First: rapid online visibility after acceptance
  • No page limit: large amount of space to publish extensive papers
  • Supplemental material: original datasets, short videos or sounds can be published online

Open Access Option for Authors

The BSPI supports open access. Making an article open access increases its potential readership and enables authors to meet institutional and funder’s open access mandates where they apply. Authors of open access articles may immediately download, copy, and distribute the final PDF of their article and post it on a website, institutional repository or other free public server.
The Article Publishing Charge (APC) for open access in the BSPI is:

300 Euro (Society members)
500 Euro (non-members, their institutions or funders).

Once an article is accepted, the corresponding author will be offered to select open access under the CC BY license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) and guided accordingly.
